More than 270 broadcasting industry leaders from 28 countries around the Europe and beyond have gathered to Tallinn, Estonia, where Levira’s 2nd Digital Broadcasting Conference was opened today.
Two days event in Tallinn TV-Tower Conference Centre gives best possible coverage of all important aspects and best practices of analogue switch-off (ASO) process around the Europe as well as technical considerations of terrestrial transmission using MPEG-4 AVC video-compression based on first live experiences. Recent developments and trends in High Definition transmission and Mobile TV are the other major topics of the Conference.
Conference was declared open by the Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications Mr Juhan Parts.
“During recent years Estonia has been implementing new technologies for welfare of its inhabitants, and guiding in many areas Europe and the whole world. Estonia is well known for its e-Government, mobile-parking, and e-elections”, said Minister in his opening speech, “but it is less known that in 2006 Estonia became the first country to introduce DTT Terrestrial Digital TV using the latest MPEG-4 AVC technology. This Conference is a sign showing that Estonia continues implementing innovative and value-added technologies and at the same time is pioneering in those areas Europe-wide.”
Keynote speech was given by President and CEO of TDF Group Mr. Michel Combes. Mr. Combes focused on issues related to Digital Dividends: “Digital dividend is a unique opportunity to develop new broadcasting services that market is waiting for: Mobile TV, HD TV, Interactive TV, VoD, catch-up TV etc. All those services can be delivered ALSO over terrestrial platform but all those new and innovative broadcasting services will need digital dividend to be implemented after analogue switch-off.”
Whole Conference is transmitted live in High Definition over Levira’s digital terrestrial network, being first HD program filmed and transmitted live in Estonia.
